College Football

We're beginning that magical time of year again when drinking at 8 am in public is perfectly acceptable...college football season has begun. Today marks the first full Saturday of games and as such we here at SportsBullies thought we would provide our valuable public service once again make a couple of predictions.

The level of consistency from top team to top team is fairly strong in college football as perennially top programs have the recruiting power to plug in future All-Americans into their lineup to replace the players they lost to the NFL and graduation (a seemingly rarer event.)

However I prefer to see a team play a couple of times before putting any of my money on the line ... if such a thing were legal, that is strictly a figure of speech ... just so I have a somewhat better feeling of how the team is going to play this year. But that doesn't mean we can't let y'all look into our glass ball a little and see the future of a couple games.

Missouri (-4) vs Illinois (at St Louis) 4:30 pm ESPN2

Ron Zook can recruit...but he can't coach that well. All those talented youngsters for the Illini won't do them enough good as few QBs on earth know their offensive system as well as Mizzu junior Chase Daniel. Missouri will win this one easily...which translates to "by more than 4 points."

19 Florida State (-3.5) vs Clemson Monday 9 pm ESPN

Labor is usually held for FSU/Miami but the Canes recent slide proved to be the impetus for placing the Bowden Bowl in this spot. FSU QB Drew Weatherford sucks slightly less than he showed last year, the removal of nepotism from play calling duties should help as new offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher has implemented more of a pro-style offense... replacing their old 3 and out offensive system. Florida State may not quite be the team that was in the top 5 for 792 straight years but unless Tommy can get McNabb, Marvin Harrison, and Jim Brown all to come back to a crappy east coast orange colored school Papa's going to take this one easily.... and we know all know that "easily" means.

UPSET PICK!!!!

Appalachian State vs 5 Michigan (-27.5) 11 am

Now I really like Michigan this year but they lost a ton on defense and will be facing a dynamic FAST offense. Appy State is the two time defending I-AA champs...they're no slouch. Honestly I wouldn't say a damn thing about this game if I didn't see ASU play a couple games in the playoffs last year, but they really impressed me. They prolly can't stop Henne/Hart but they'll put up some points on a regrouping Maze and Blue defense that may very well look past them. Michigan should definitely win but Appalachian State will fight for 60 minutes and cover.

These picks are for infotainment purposes only... unless you're in Vegas. If you feel like you love our picks so much that you want more of them then we will hook you up with some for a nominal fee.

Games are about to start, have a happy Labor Day weekend everyone... the only holiday that we celebrate by doing the exact opposite of the name of the day.
