NFL Football Picks

Lincoln here taking some time from sailing my yacht around the Gulf to bring you the picks you so desperately need for this Sunday full of pro football, and pennant race baseball (though no baseball picks) goodness. Lots of home dogs this week which means lots of "fun" to be had since we know that sports betting is illegal in most of the country and these are for entertainment purposes only... the "'s around fun were only to emphasis the non-bettingness not for sarcasm.

Green Bay (-1) @ Minny

I know I went against the "picking home underdog" philosophy here but it's only one lousy point. Plus most the public still underrate how good this Packer team is (note SportsBullies predicted them to win the NFC Central at the beginning of the season) and Minny is really bad. Kelley Holcomb will start at QB for them and he has a girl's name.

St Louis (+13) @ Dallas

Now before all the Cow faithful come running after me with pitchforks I'm not predicting a Ram victory, only a Ram cover...big difference. Parody is such in the NFL that virtually no team should be a 2 TD favorite over another. Last I checked, T-New still wasn't 100% Roy Williams is still on the team and if there's one thing that even and injured Marc Bulger/St Louis Ram offensive game attack can do is throw the ball down field. Dallas' secondary looks great against Miami and Rex Grossman but a solid QB with Issac Bruce and Tory Holt will be able to score...if Eli and Plexiglass can the Rams should def score enough to cover...just not to win.

AC Baseball in Texas...?

According to a SportsBullies trusted source inside the Rangers organization, Texas has begun discussions with sponsors and season ticket holders about the possibility of adding a retractable roof to the Ballpark. Obviously this is far away from actually happening, but if a roof was added to the Temple it would stand as one of the biggest (and first) "fan-friendly" moves by the organization. It will be interesting to see how adding a retractable roof affect how much the ball carries, it is not going to turn the Baseball Field Formerly Known as Ameriquest into Chavez Ravine but there could be beneficial effect for the play of the field.

Dallas Dominates

So watching football after recording is awesome in the fact that you can skip all the crap you don't need, like commercials, and anything Al Michaels says. But it is impossible to not know the outcome of the game before you watch it. Period. Despite completely ignoring the radio in the car home and walking away from conversations with people talking about the game there's ALWAYS going to be some idiot who just blurts out things (JJ?) even if he knows you have the game TiVoed.

Onto the game though. The highs.... T-O-N-Y R-O-M-O. Dude is my hero. I mean, he makes it look so effortless and he is having a blast. Who wouldn't love this guy?!? I mean, besides whinny ass Skins and Eagles fans. He made at least 4 absolutely jaw dropping, make you want to jump for joy, he must be Harry Houdini plays. Just ask the Bears' efense. (Not a typo. The supposed 'D' they had? Romo made them look foolish.)

Actually the Bears did a decent job but Romo's ability to continually buy more time and make plays that nobody else can reduced a championship caliber D to looking like the Rams.

That's the key though, Romo makes plays that virtually no one else can. How many sacks would the Bears have had if Drew Bledsoe was QB? Maybe that's an extreme example, but Peyton would have gotten the ball off...he never gets sacked not because he's fast but because he's smart...Brady prolly the same thing, Vince Young could run away from the blitzers but he can't see the field like Romo and is no where near as accurate a passer, so who else? Palmer? Maybe Hasselback? I think the Bears would hassle him onto his back a lot (high comedy!), McNabb? Depends on how healthy he is.

The point is Romo has now catapulted him into the stratosphere of elite player in the NFL. It's not just that he's the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys, it's not because he went to the Pro Bowl last year (which was more indicative of a hot start and weak NFC QB play than anything) it's because he's a special, special talent who's shown the remarkable ability to reach his zenith directly after his nadir.

...Actually I don't think I should say that, I don't think Romo's at his highest point. I'm not going to jinx it and say where that point is but it'll be a fun ride to find out.

Lions @ Philly (-5.5)

McNabb isn't near as bad as he showed on Monday night and the Lions are a whole lot worse than they've shown this year. Philly D gets in Kitna's face all day, forcing turnovers...Brain Westbrook finally has his mega break out game for my Bad Newz Kennels fantasy team

Rams @ Tampa Bay (-3.5)

There is still a fairly large contingent of people out there who think of the St Louis Rams as a good football team...on Planet Earth, not so much. Tampa is just medicore but an average team should beat a terrible team with awful defense by a touchdown at home.

A legit top 10 team...even if they're not there in the polls... versus one of the 10 worst programs, at home, with a great offense. This line could be 10 points higher and I'd still think about going with the Fightin' Matt Ryan's!

State College of Pennsylvania @ Michigan (+3)

People have over reacted to the start of Michigan's year...they're not near as good as I thought they were to start the season but give me Mike Hart at home with points.
